Untitled, acrylic on canvas, Vera Tchikovani

The purpose of works of art may be to communicate ideas, such as in politically, spiritually, or philosophically motivated art; to create a sense of beauty (see aesthetics); to explore the nature of perception; for pleasure; or to generate strong emotions. The purpose may also be seemingly nonexistent.
— Goethe

PROJECT ONLINE MENTORING is an exciting NEW INTERACTIVE LIVE ONLINE course of 4 months duration. Students will experience the complete process of deepening their commitment to their own Studio Practice by creating a project of their choice. This is for a small group of artists only——3 to 5 chosen students by application. The group will meet on Zoom once a month and individually one-on-one, once a month. At the end there will be a final presentation before a small review panel of 3 to 4 professional artists. Taught by Suzanne Jacquot.

  • Each artist will focus on a particular project that they wish to delve into.  Artist will create a statement of intention (which can be changed or expanded on during the time of the PROJECT).  As part of the artist statement, size and materials and method will be chosen.  Artist will do exploratory work around the chosen project and then when a direction is clear, the artist will create a body of 6 to 10 pieces of art.  During the 4 months, the artist will keep a journal which will contain, among other things, thoughts, notes,  quotes, images, thumbnails, etc., that support the artist intention.

  • Group sessions will center around sharing progress, difficulties, other artists projects and ways to be skillful in the process for successful completion.

  • Each Group Session there will be topics presented to help the participants choose a project, how to prepare, how to write the artist statement, how to present themselves in front of the review panel

  • There will be videos and slide shows which participants can review

  • Group sessions are recorded for replay

  • During PROJECT there will be a closed FB group where artists can post their progress, interact with other artists in PROJECT.

  • At the end of the 4 months, the artist will share their PROJECT with the group and two or three invited guest artists who will review and critique each PROJECT.

  • All meetings will occur in LIVE ONLINE ZOOM sessions. The group will create the meeting schedule by consensus.

Applications will be accepted starting October 1st. PROJECT ONLINE will commence mid January.***

To apply: Write a statement of Who you are, what you do, and why you do it. Describe your current Art Practice and why you would like to take PROJECT ONLINE. This can be brief. Send 5 to 10 images of current (within the last year).
